![]() The lamb shank brought out its richness, and softened the tannin.įor my final day of tasting, today (Thursday), I again returned to tasting the two wines without food, as I did right after opening them. And I was pleasantly surprised by the 2016–after the bottle had been open more than 48 hours, this had turned into a nice wine. It certainly was as good Wednesday as the previous day. On Wednesday evening, the 2015 may have been slightly better yet–or that impression may have been the result of pairing it again with the lamb shank. The 2016 was slightly less jarring, but I still drank only a few sips, whereas I had to restrain myself after two glasses of the 2015. It went beautifully with leftover lemon chicken in cream sauce, over wild rice. The fruit dominated any other flavor.īy Tuesday evening, the 2015 had developed more complexity and subtlety, delicious. It tasted to me more like tannic and alcoholic grape juice, hardly like wine at all. Just after opening, the 2016 was very disappointing. It was delicious Monday evening with lamb shank slow-braised with carrots, shallot, garlic, and over-the-hill wine. If I hadn’t known they were the same wine, I would not have believed it! The 2015 was soft, integrated, and quite complex for a fairly young and modestly priced wine. I opened them both on Monday afternoon, poured and tasted right away. This was an interesting experiment! It turned out that my distributor had both the 2015 and the 2016, so I bought a bottle of each to compare. Tart cherry, acidic, metallic, young, grapefruit, sour on the palette. Delicious wine at a great QPRĭeep maroon color with a rustic, dark fruit, and slightly musty nose. Very bright lingering fruit with nice backing acidity and light tannins. To me, I could easily mistake this for an old vine new world zinfandel, except for the leather elements. Medium ruby, clean and bright appearance, earthy medium-intensity aromas of leather and tobacco with spice elements, on the palate sweet/rich/slightly tart cherries backed by a powdery-smooth tannic backbone. Screams give me a fatty steak or creamy mushroom polenta. Smooth on the pallet, dry, one note, longish finish. ![]() Solid acid and tannin, should improve with age to a point, but clearly young. On the nose it’s like a cherry basket, but more basket than cherries and the basket was kept in a cave, no alcohol, no funk. $18 | 2016 Tenuta di Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva Panelist A: In the second month of drinking in place, the panel came forward and shared their experience with Sangiovese, 2016 Tenuta di Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva.
